Poking The Bear

Dublin

Welcomed with a warm greeting as I walked in, I took a moment to browse through their offerings. I decided to go with a straightforward brew to sample their latest locally roasted selection. About Bear Mrkt. In 2009, amid the challenges of a tough economy, Stephen and Ruth Deasy, newly minted architects, found themselves facing limited job opportunities. Rather than succumb to the circumstances, they chose to carve out their own path. Embracing the uncertainty, they established a small coffee stall at Blackrock Market, undeterred by the ongoing recession, which had earned the name "Bear Market." After attracting a strong following from local coffee enthusiasts, they opened a permanent café in Blackrock. As one of Dublin's pioneering specialty coffee spots, they expanded rapidly, now with seven locations across the city.

Their architectural background has certainly paid off, as each café features a distinctive and striking design, making every shop a unique experience — proving that an architecture degree is good for more than just making fancy blueprints and expensive mistakes.
